Spain is the second most mountainous country in Europe. Because of this, the Spanish climate in Spain is always affected by altitude changes across the land. The vast land mass of Spain as a whole means that there is a significant difference between the North and the South.
The Eastern side of Spain which is sun-kissed by the beautiful Mediterranean Sea, has high sunshine levels from six hours per day in the Winter to twelve hours per day in the Summer.
The coastal areas are always warmer than central Spain in the Winter yet they can be noticeably cooler in the hot Summer months.
The North Eastern and North Western areas can have significant rainfall in the Summer months of June to September whilst the Eastern and Southern 'Costas' can enjoy a virtually rain-free Summer.
There are hot winds that travel from North Africa, these are like hot hair dryers blowing in your face. They are referred to as a Sorocco or Leveche wind.
Below are the AVERAGE temperatures (combined day and night) around the Costas. To get a feel for the day temperature, you could add 5c to all the monthly figures. The various daytime 'Highs' can vary immensely from 20c in winter to over 40c in the height of the Summer.
