Green Coast with a green sea! This coastal chain of unspoilt fishing villages with beautifully contoured cliffs and golden sandy beaches is generally unknown to the coast-seeking Europeans. The surrounding grass and wooded hinterland contain eucalyptus and pine trees with the mountains as the backdrop.

At the mouth of the River Negro is the old-fashioned busy fishing port of Luarca (Lluarca). To the east is Cudillero (Cuideiru) a colourful fishing port with excellent fish restaurants around the port area. Near to the most northern point of the Asturian (Cabo de Penas) is Salinas which has one of the longes beaches in the area and is now a developed resort. As you pass Gijon (Xixon) there is Lastres (Llastres) far beneath the dangerous cliffs. Cider and Seafood is the speciality in the small coastal resort of La Isla, the next town along. At the mouth of the River Sella is the large holiday town of Ribadesella (Ribesella) with a superb beach. The old town of Llanes also stands at the river mouth and has great views from its green clifftop paseo filled with tamarisk trees.
