Each of the Balearic Islands has its own character, apart from being the biggest, Majorca hosts over 1.5m British holidaymakers each year, some in search of the quieter life easily found north in places such as Canyamel or Cala Ratjada, Cala Bona or Cala Millor. At the south west area of this popular island is the busier areas of Palma Nova, Santa Ponsa and the famous Puerto Pollensa. To the south east, is the beautiful popular resort of Cala d’Or and Cala Santanyl. A programme of events is underway in Majorca to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the beginning of construction on the magnificent church, the Majorcan Cathedral, one of the most brilliant Gothic buildings in Europe.
