This island is very easily explored by car especially as outside Mahon and Ciutadella there is very little traffic. With the aid of a good map, freely available from the airport information kiosk you can find all the hideaway places the Menorcan people go to, to escape the crowds. Over 120 beaches surround the island. There are many historic sites as well as good sport and leisure facilities scattered around. There is only one 18 hole golf course in Menorca and that is to the north at Son Parc.
This island is carefully controlled with regards to its development and there are many schemes in place covering almost half the countryside and coastline with regards to environmental and conservation issues.
